FORGIVEN

If we are forgiven, why can’t we forgive? How you can know if you are living in unforgiveness.

A ten week Bible study.

OFFENSE DOESN’T WIN GAMES

Experts would say that the best drivers are those who drive defensively. You know the kind I am talking about. These drivers are always scanning the road ahead, next to them, behind them – always wondering what the other person might do. My husband is one of these defensive driver types. There are even “Defensive Driving” courses. However, it’s the opposite of how we think, or at least how I think (I also have a problem with credit/debits so it could just be my brain that works this way). Most would say that this is driving offensively, right? I mean you are the one in control of the car, like a quarterback with the football, and you get to decide where your car is going.

The same goes with life. Most people you ask would say they live a defensive life. They erect walls around their hearts and their lives. Their tough exterior speaks volumes about the hurt they have endured in their lifetime. But like with driving, while we think we are living defensively, we are actually living offensively. We have not been able to let go of offenses that weigh us down. And offense doesn't win ball games.

Given time, those offensive weights will drag you down into pits of despair.

It is not a matter of if someone will offend you; rather, it is a matter of when, how many times and how will you let the offense affect you. It is part of living in a broken world, full of broken and selfish people.

The shocking part for some of us is that we are walking around bound to shackles of unforgiveness and we do not even realize it. We stuff and we push, but we do not release.
