How's Your Vision?
by Erin Olson on April 12th, 2013

Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!“ (Matthew 6:22, 23 NLT)
Now that is a mouthful! But oh how true it is. This word was dropped on me today and it stuck. As someone who dug herself (along with the help of the Holy Spirit) out of the voluntary darkness I had thrown myself into, I can totally relate. I know all about what it looks like to look like you have it all together, but deep down inside knowing all along that you don’t. And, I know that some of you reading this will totally know what I am talking about as well.

God created darkness for rest. But instead of rest, it is the place where bad choices are made, where scrupulous activities take place and if we are not careful, it is the place where we can sell our souls to the devil.

In a world where things are becoming seemingly grey, we must remember that no matter what, there is no grey....only light and darkness. Even the evening is a reflection of light and darkness. Everything works off of the reflection of light and darkness. The way we view that light and darkness is a reflection of what is going on with our eyes.

For instance, if it is sunny and I put on my sunglasses, it becomes a little less bright although the sunlight itself hasn’t changed. At the same time, if I turn on a flashlight outside at night, it may still be dark out, but my eyes see light. The darkness itself didn’t change…I added light.
Same goes with sin. If we perceive our sin to be right, to be ok, to be acceptable, then our minds will view it as ok even if the world, and our own hearts inside of us, view it as wrong.

It's a "me" world at any and all costs. People will feed themselves before they will feed others. We are selfish by nature and as our world, and specifically our country, move farther away from God, our selfish natures fill us up. Things of this world sway our eyes and our decisions are based on our lusts and our desires instead of what is right and good in the sight of God (see Deuteronomy 6:18).

We are in a battle against the spiritual realm which manipulates people’s eyesight. As we read in Matthew 6:23, if you think what you have is light, but is actually darkness, oh how deep that darkness is.

Translation, you may think you got it all going on, but just wait, you may be about to see the great big mess you’ve gotten yourself into because what you have isn’t right.

Now is the time to “repent of your sins and turn to (or back to) God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” (Matthew 3:2 NLT)

We don't know how many times salvation will come knocking before it is too late. And, Jesus told us "the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it." (Matthew 7:14 NLT)

Be the one who does find it.

May we all repent of our sins and turn to the Father. We may think our eyes are good, that our choices are good and that our hearts are well, but we all have need for healing and better health, both physically and spiritually. And that wellness only comes from walking closely with the Father.
